The Structure of the Assembly Hall

The highest religion-political authority of the monastery is the Lachi, the Board of Directors. It included ten members: four Abbots, one Zimkhang Depa, the Master of the Holy Headquarters, two Geko the Assembly Hall Disciplinarians, one Tsochen Uze, the Assembly Hall prayer Leader, and two Chiso, the Finance Managers. These members, are responsibls for solving major problems of the monastery. Their duties follow:
1. The Abbots are the supreme heads for both political and religious matters. (more details will follow later.
2. The Master of the Holy Headquarters is responsible for taking care of the Dalai Lama's Living quarters in Drepung. He represents the local government in Drepung and takes charge of in settling law cases together with the two Disciplinarians.
3. The Disciplinarians are responsible for the general discipline of the monastery. They take charge over the rules and constitutions, the laws and regulations concerning both political and religious affairs. They also are responsible in settling law cases together with the Master of the Holy headquarters. When a monk breaks the law, they punished not only the monk himself, but also questin and punish the guaranting teacher who first received him into the monastery. In cases such as murders, the accused is first expelled from the monastery by clothing him in lay man's dress, then handed over to government law courts.
4. The Prayer Leader is responsible for leading prayers.
5. The Financial Manager is resposible for the finance.
