The
Tibetan Mastiff is referred to as "Oriental
miraculous dog", "Miraculous beast",
"Number one dog" and "Antique dog".
It once served as the seating mount for Living
Buddha Master Padmasambhava and Tsonjkhapa in
Tibet, and the "miraculous army of The Tibetan
Mastiff" of Genghis Khan, who had his army
swept caross the country. The Tibetan Mastiff
has a strong body, with unique and fierce appearance
and impres-sive and dignified characteristics.
The Tibetan Mastiff plays a critical important
role in the life chain of ecological equilibrium
in the pasture area of Tibetan Plateau. It can
kill such animals as leopard, wolf, marmot, rabbit
and rat. "A lush meadow with fat cattle and
sheep" is closely linked with the species
and polulation of The Tibetan Mastiffs. In addition,
Tibetan dogs are also part of the ethical traditions,
culture and religion of the Tibetan people, and
the development of Tibetan dogs represents, to
a quite large extent, the ethical interests and
advance of the Tibetan nationality.
As Tibetan Mastiffs are different form other Tibetan
Mastiff, with only one estrus period a year, and
the time for their giving birth of young dogs
is severe winter, which is cold and lacking in
oxygen, therefore the survival rate of young Mustiff
(dog) is quite low. On the other hand, dog fans
both at home and abroad now buy The Tibetan Mastiffs
in Tibet at high prices, resulting in serious
loss of purebred The Tibetan Mastiff Mustiff (dog)
and sharp decreasing in their quality and quantity.
Now purebred The Tibetan Mastiff has become basically
extinct in the place of origin, which is really
a painful situation. If The Tibetan Mastiff cannot
return to the snow-con-ered plateau, serious damage
will occur to the ecological equilibrium and pasture
construction in Tibet.
The establishment of The Tibetan Mastiff Center
project is aimed at "rescuing", "researching",
"development" and "reproduction"
of purebred breeding dog, so that this precious
national heritage can develop and grow stronger.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF THE PROJECT
Objective of the project:
Quickly establishing an entity mainly aiming at
"rescuing", "researching",
"development" and "reproduction"
of purebred breeding dog. This entity will become
a base for the supply of purebred Tibetan breeding
dog to other places in China and abroad.
Effectiveness and impact of the project
After the establishment of the The Tibetan Mastiff
Center, it will become the most authorative and
largest The Tibetan Mastiff Center in the world,
and realize the fine aspiration of the Tibetan
people of "having the purebred The Tibetan
Mastiff return to Tibet and achieving ecological
balance and peaceful prosperity". Upon completion
of the project, the annual rate of return from
investment will be over 13.3%, and it is expected
that from the third year, over 800 Tibetan Mastiff
s will be produced every year, with an output
value of 1.4 million US dollars.
Tasks and main activities of the project
Completing the establishment of "The Tibetan
Mastiff Center of Tibet" in a short period
of time (3 years), and establish the operation
mode in line with the market laws to achieve gains.
Main activities:
1. Researching on the biological characteristics
of The Tibetan Mastiff and establishing discipline
of Tibetan dog (including feeding discipline and
system engineering)
2. Researching on the subject of artificial fertilization
and reproduction of TTher Tibetan Mastiff
3.Completing the plan of putting in The Tibetan
Mastiff to the Tibetan regions, and solving the
relevant issues of ecological equilibrium in Tibetan
Plateau;
4. Establishing exchange with international The
Tibetan Mastiff research institutions, to promote
technical advance and complete the internationalized
operation mechanism;
5.Reproduction of purebred The Tibetan Mastiff
as a fist product of Tibet, and achieving economic
gains to make contributions to the economic prosperity
of Tibet.
