Cattle rearing leads to the way of wealth

Sources from an opening conference on agricultural work, more than one hundred leaders of agricultural sectors were discussing the way of exploring cattle-rearing industry in Nagqen village, Lhasa city in recent days.

Recent years, with the assistance and support from Tibetan governments at all levels, the cattle-raising industry presents a new trend of growth. More and more farmers begin to raise cattle as a way of earning.

Skalbzang Phumtsog, a farmer in Nagqen village is one of Tibetan farmers getting better-off through cattle-raising. He said: "Before, one milk cow could produce 1.5 kilograms milk, now it can produce more than 15 kilograms milk with new technology." It is a great change for farmers and herders. At the same time, it can not be apart from the care and concern from the governments as Skalbzang Phumtsog expressed. Besides growing farming crops (Qingke, wheat and vegetable), Skalbzang Phumtsog raises 7 milk cows at present.

Last year, Tibet Government has invested more than 29.8 million yuan in 41 projects of agricultural scientific research. Xu Mingyang, the vice secretary of Tibet Party Committee said: "There is a great potential for developing Tibetan stockbreeding industry, especially the stock-raising industry in rural areas."

There is a huge demand for cow milk, meat and other related products in many areas of Tibet, such as Zetang town, Lhasa city. Tibet Government has attached a great importance to the reconstruction of economic structure in farming and pastoral areas. They are striving to develop stock-raising industry as the dominant industry in farming and pastoral areas.
