Sources from Tibet Culture Relics Bureau, the renovation of the largest ancient prison of Tibet, Langzisha has completed and passed the check on November 23rd. Langzisha will open to the public in May, 2005.
According to those who are in charge of the ancient prison, Langzisha, due to long years of disrepair and humidity damage, some walls of the former prison are on the verge of collapse and in dire need of repair.
Situated in Barkor Street of Lhasa, Langzisha is a typical example of Tibetan architecture covering an area of 720 square meters.
It was built by the Fifth Dalai Lama in the middle of the 17th century. It originally meant to be the government headquarters of Lhasa, but was later turned into a prison.
