Recently an academic report called ˇ°Tibetan culture and societyˇ± was given in a conference room in Institute of Geophysics and Resources, CAS by Prof. Xu Ping, invited jointly by Chinese Association of Tibetan Plateau Study and the program of "study of the interrelationship between environmental change and ecosystem on the Plateau since Holocene".
Prof. Xu, a researcher in the center of Tibetan study of China, is a conductor for post-doctors in the department of nationality study and sociology, Chinese Nationality University. He used to major in border region exploitation after Prof. Fei Xiaotong in the department of sociology in Peking University. So far, he has produced a wealth of papers and theses concerning Tibet and other bordering regions in China.
He presented his report in four sections, namely the concept of Tibet, Tibet as an origin of human beings, ancient civilization in Tibet and recent history of Tibet.
His report has drawn much attention among youths, who were interested in Tibet and anxious to learn more about it. After the report, the audience also posed a number of riveting questions to better appreciate the connection between environment and culture.
